My Life in Five Years

I would like to be a correspondent. I will be a 27 years old in the next five years. I would like to work for the Hankere newspaper company because I think this company is the one and only one who reports the fact impartially. I think this company is recognized for his vigorous support of social justice, civil rights, and moral issues, including women’s liberation and legal recognition of gay marriage. Therefore, some conservative people and lots of newspaper companies do not like this company. I think journalists have to try to keep people’s rights. I would like to do that. I especially would like to be a correspondent like Ahn Su-chan. I remember the first time when I saw him in the students’ reporter seminar. All his words in the seminar was impressing me. I think living as a correspondent is not easy through my experience, but working as a correspondent will make my life more meaningful and affect my society. I would like to be living and working in Seoul because I can have chances to meet more social affairs and people. Through this, I think I will be more meaningful person, and it will be a good time to improve myself. I am also sure that my efforts will help to improve my society. I would like to make enough money to live well.

Social Issue

     I think invasion of privacy is the most important social issue in Korea nowadays. A few weeks ago on the TV program, Suda, a young woman said, “The men who are under 180cm tall are loser.” Then, information about  what school she goes to, where she lives, what her name is, and lots of her privatel information, including her school grades, were publicized on the internet. It astonished me because I can be harassed. Nowadays, anyone can access almost any information they want about you! Some people consider the netizens as investigators. Many entertainers, singers and even ordinary people have suffered from invasion of privacy. It reminds me of the movie, The Truman Show. Parents are also afraid about their children on the online. They want to keep them from the internet which is unprotected. The reason why this problem develops is some people think that ‘privacy is more important’ and others think that ‘right to know is more important.’ Almost every news sources say, ‘we have to rule the range of individual information.’ Some people make high technology programs to protect personal informantion from others, including DRM, but it cannot cover all our information.  The solutions are to install software to monitor our children’s online activity and protect them from the internet, to give people instructions how to handle individual information on the internet, and to rule range of individual information. It is hard to perform, but we have to protect our privacy!

The E-mail Interview with Jang Hye-rim

     Jang Hye-rim is an interesting student. She was interested in sports. When she was in elementary school, she was a member of girls’ soccer team. Nowadays, she does not play soccer, but she exercises in the fitness center. She said her most exciting moment is when she was in middle school. In that time, she did not have to care about exams and her future. All she did was enjoying her life. Nowadays, she does not worry about her future, but she thinks she has to try more to become a better person. As well, when she was in high school, she was a member of Christian club, Hased which means ‘Love of God, The glory of God.’ Sadly, she had to prepare for her college exam, so she quitted that club.

I like making Korean food and searching for Korean recipes. On this site, I can read reviews, recipes, interviews, and the best, most accurate information on ingredients and methods in English and Korean. The latest post shows that Korean first lady, Kim Yoon-ok, makes Japchae, which is one of the most famous Korean dishes.

This site is well divided into groups including, recipes, restaurants, and many different kinds of food(tea, drink, fish, vegetables, fish, meat, and rice). I think this site is very useful for people who are interested in Korea and especially for people who live in Korea. This site also has a lot of other reliable linked sites and blogs. This site’s contents are beyond my expectation and I can see that a lot of people are interested in Korean food!

Getting to Know My Classmate

     Today in class, I talked to Jin-sun who is very special girl. She is interested in Clinical Science, and she wants to study more about ‘the aging process in humans’. She said she also wants to help Africans who suffer from AIDS. That is why she chose to major in ‘Biotechnology‘. To study what she wants, it is important to improve her English ability to read, speak, and write. I think she is interesting because she her father is a well known boxing referee, Kim Byung-moo, and her high school name, ‘Demonstration Ewha Keum-ran Highschool College of Education Ewha Womans University’, is the longest in Korea. She also took a special trip to Mt. Geumgang, which is located in North Korea, a partially restricted area.

 

The nature was excellent as we know, but she felt that she was being watched by someone all the time. In the end, she expressed her life goal. She said she wants to live as a christian, forever.

I can’t live without my MP3 Player!

     I can’t live without my MP3 player! I have had it since last year. My father bought it for my birthday. My father said it was two hundred thousand won. It is very useful because it is a 4GB touch screen MP3 player. I always carry it because listening to music on my MP3 player makes me happy. I can also watch movies or videos on it. When I have nothing to do, I usually watch movies or videos. I especially like watching movies lying in my bed. I am happy with my MP3 player. If I have a chance to buy another MP3 Player, I would like to buy another Kowon.

My Dream Vacation

     I would like to go Spain someday with my sister, because I would like to live like a Spaniard. Two years ago, I learned a little Spainish, and I learned about their way of life. It looks like a very passionate country. From that class, I learned that Spain has a lot of festivals, including San Fermín festival, Tomato Festival, and Patio Festival. Also, Spain is famous for soccer, corrida de toros, flamenco, and Don Quixote. Many people say that Spainish soccer is really exciting. People in Spain love their soccer teams, including FC Barcelona, Valencia CF and Real Madrid, but Real Madrid is the most famous soccer team.

 

Corrida de toros means bullfighting and it literally means a running of bulls. Bullfighting season in Spain runs from March to October. The fights that attract most spectators are the ones held during Fiesta patronales, named ferias taurinas. The most prestigious of such fights is held for the fiesta of San Isidro in Madrid.

Flamenco is a Spanish musical genre with origins in Andalusia and a term that refers both to a musical genre, known for its intricate rapid passages. It is generally acknowledged that flamenco grew out of the unique interplay of native Arabic, Andalusian, Sephardic, and Gypsy cultures that existed in Andalusia prior to and after the Reconquest. I would like to join these festivals and watch football games and the Corrida de toros. If I have a chance to learn Flamenco, I would love to. Through this experience, I want to do something interesting and special. I heard that every season is a good time to visit Spain because there are many attractions, but I would like to go Spain in the summer. This is because, in the summer, I can watch soccer, Corrida de toros, and a lot of festivals. I would especially  like to stay two months from July to August, but I do not think I can afford to. During this season, many people rush to Spain for their vacation, so airplane tickets are expensive and hotel charges will increase. The costs are beyond whar I expect,  around almost eight million won. I think I can stay in the summer for just one month. It will cost about four million won.

My Major

     Since I like learning English, I chose to major in English Literature. I am taking a lot of interesting classes including “Internet English”, “English Language Teaching”, and “English Translation into Korean”, this semester. I am especially interested in learning how to translate English to Korean. To take this course, I need to read New York Times’s articles four times a week with a great care. It helps me understand what is happening around the world, so the New York Times site is really good for me. Based on this, I want to be a correspondent.
